HMA is your voice and your organization. It is the only statewide association representing Hawaii physicians of all specialties and practice types. In 1856, HMA received a charter from King Kamehameha IV and organized so the public could recognize those medical practitioners who were properly trained to provide their care. While much has changed since then, today HMA continues in this proud tradition of serving patients and the community.

Leading the Way in Legislative Advocacy
HMA is the largest organization to represent the interests of physicians, regardless of specialty, before the state legislature and state government concerning laws and regulations that directly impact your practice and patient safety. HMA is at the forefront of advocating for solutions to help alleviate the patient access to care crisis in Hawaii.
Protecting Your Practice
For its members, the HMA Peer Review Program provides assistance to prevent and resolve patient complaints before they impact your medical license, practice and reputation.
Education
HMA provides accreditation to make CME courses available throughout the state; forums focusing on legislative, economic, and social topics in medicine, and each year HMA organizes the Ola Pono Ike Medical Gala, a benefit event featuring the inauguration of HMA's new president and the award for Physician of the Year.
In addition, HMA members enjoy other unique benefits:
- Representation in HMSA / Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement compliance disputes
- Representation at the American Medical Association
- Free or discounted subscriptions to HMA publications
- Invitations to members-only financial & practice management seminars
- Use of vendor discounts & benefits for HMA members
