Support and Strengthen Organized Medicine

Join HMA

HMA is your voice and your organization. It is the only statewide association representing all of Hawaii's physicians regardless of specialty or type of practice. In 1856, HMA was chartered by King Kamehameha IV so the public would recognize those medical practitioners who were properly trained to provide their care. While much has changed since then, today HMA continues in this proud tradition.

HMA Membership Benefits

Leading the Way for Medical Liability Reform
HMA is the largest organization to represent the interests of physicians, regardless of specialty, before the state legislature and state government concerning laws and regulations that directly impact your practice.

HMA is at the forefront of advocating medical liability reform for Hawaii in order to help alleviate the patient access to care crisis in Hawaii, and is the lead organization of a Hawaii based pro-medical liability reform coalition.

Protecting Your Practice
For its members, the HMA Peer Review Program provides assistance to prevent and resolve patient complaints before they impact your medical license, practice and reputation.

Fostering Fellowship & Education
HMA provides a year-long series of forums focusing on legislative, economic, and social topics in medicine. Each year HMA organizes the Ola Pono Ike Medical Ball & Silent Auction, a gala event featuring the inauguration of HMA's new president and the award to the Physician of the Year.

In addition, HMA members enjoy other unique benefits:

  • Support of hospital accreditation to make CME courses available throughout the state.
  • Representation at the American Medical Association.
  • A free subscription to the Hawaii Medical Journal (a discounted subscription for non-dues paying members) and the HMA E-Newsletter.
  • Participation in the HMA Dental Plan with Hawaii Dental Service.
  • Discounts with organizations such as: Aloha Petroleum, AMC HIPAA Security Consulting Services, Central Pacific Bank, First Data merchant services, John Hancock, Banc of America Practice Solutions, New England Financial, and Physicians Exchange paging services.

We would be glad to share more information with you concerning your particular interests. Please feel free to contact Paula Arcena, Executive Director at (808) 536-7702, ext. 110; toll-free (888) 536-2792.
